Harvest time is here again. It marks the start of our busy period which sets us up for the long winter ahead.
This year we are reaching out to the community to ask for your support. Be it a collection drive in your Church, school, workplace or family or individual. We have lots of resource available to share.
What to collect
Please find link to a shopping list Shopping-List and poster Harvest-Appeal-Poster-2024 which list items that we are in need of at this Harvest time. Please feel free to duplicate and distribute to everyone supporting your Harvest collection.
Salisbury Foodbank works with non-perishable food items (tinned and dried goods), which do not spoil or decay. This means that neither the food bank nor the recipient has to worry about storing the food in a fridge or freezer, and there is less likelihood of food going to waste. It also means that we can give each person visiting the food bank a carefully designed food parcel that contains three days’ worth of nutritionally-balanced food. Our foodbank will also accept essential non-food items such as toiletries and hygiene products, helping people in crisis to maintain dignity and feel human again.
All items should be unopened, in date and in good condition, free from dents, leaks or damage. We do not give away food which has passed its used by date.

Thank you!
Your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food. Our pledge is to provide to people in crisis free of charge and we are very grateful to those who donate that enables us to do this. There are also running costs to the food bank to enable us to store and distribute the food, so if you are able to assist in any way with financial support too, that would be very much appreciated. Please complete and post off a Monetary-Response-Form v1 or donate online via just giving. Donate money
We really appreciate all and any support you are able to offer, especially at this difficult time. Together, we can ensure help is here for everyone who needs it in Salisbury and the surrounding areas, whilst we also collectively work towards a more just future where no one needs our food bank to get by.

Putting an article in your newsletter or magazine about your Harvest Festival collection would be a great way to encourage more donations over the Harvest period. You may also wish to adapt some wording and take key phrases to use on your social media channels.

Here’s some suggested wording you may like to use:
This Harvest we’re asking you to help support local people in crisis by collecting tinned and dried food for Salisbury Foodbank. We are asking everyone to rally round to give items such as UHT milk, rice 500g, tinned meat/vegi meals, cooking sauces, long life fruit juice, tinned potatoes, tinned fruit, packet or sponge pudding, snacks & deodorant.
Figures reveal that Salisbury foodbank have provided 8,143 emergency food parcels to people who couldn’t afford the essentials in Salisbury and the surrounding areas over the last year – and 3,076 of these went to children.
More people are being referred to the food bank because they don’t have enough money coming in to cover essential living costs. Rising food and fuel prices, static incomes and changes to benefits are causing many families to struggle to put food on the table but you can help be part of the solution by supporting Salisbury Foodbank.
The food bank helps local individuals and families in crisis through the provision of emergency food supplies donated by churches, schools, businesses and the general public. The circumstances surrounding a crisis are unique to every individual, so the food bank partners with frontline care professionals, such as health visitors, social workers and other community-based support workers, who are able to identify people facing hunger and refer them to the food bank. As well as receiving nutritionally-balanced 3 day food parcels, people are welcomed with a cup of tea, listened to and signposted to agencies that are able to offer further support.
The demands on the food bank are as strong as ever and this is where you can help. Please join us by giving food so that local people in crisis don’t face hunger. We really appreciate your support so we can ensure make the greatest possible difference to people experiencing hardship in Salisbury and the surrounding areas.
NB: Please make sure all food is unopened, non-perishable, in date, and undamaged. Thank you!
