Salisbury Gears Up for International Pancake Race to Highlight Food Insecurity

28th January 2026

Salisbury will once again be flipping for a good cause as the annual Salisbury International Pancake Race returns on Shrove Tuesday, 17 February, starting at 11am.

This year’s event will see Salisbury Foodbank teaming up with St Thomas’s Church to raise awareness of food insecurity and poverty affecting people across Salisbury and the surrounding areas in 2026. For many local residents, this reality means going without life’s essentials – including food on the table, warm clothing, suitable footwear, or even a secure roof over their heads.

The race will begin with competitors gathering at 10.45am opposite Waterstones Bookshop, ahead of the 11am start. Shops, organisations and community groups are encouraged to take part, with participants racing, some in fancy dress!

Each competitor will race carrying a frying pan and pancake, both of which will be provided on the day. As in previous years, there will be official flipping points (OFPs) along the course, and competitors who fail to flip their pancake at these points will be disqualified. The overall winner will be the fastest runner down the track, although with strong interest expected, a series of heats may be required to determine the final champion.

To support wider participation, organisations are strongly encouraged to enter more than one representative, such as colleagues, family members or friends.

Those wishing to take part can complete the entry form and return it to the Salisbury Foodbank office or email it to [email protected]. A paper-free option is also available via the online entry link.

Or download, print and return a paper copy here.

Organisers hope the event will not only provide entertainment but also shine a spotlight on the growing need for support within the community. Public support for this important cause is warmly welcomed.
