What a wonderful celebration we enjoyed at this year’s famous International Pancake Race on Shrove Tuesday! The High Street was full of laughter, friendly competition, and costumes as neighbours of all ages gathered for one of our most joyful local traditions.
From our youngest racers in the children’s heats to the more “experienced” pancake-flippers, the enthusiasm was contagious. Spectators lined the route, cheering on friends, families, local businesses, and community groups as they raced — frying pans in hand — determined not to drop their pancakes before the finish line!
We were especially grateful for the support of our volunteers, stewards, and St Thomas’ Church who helped make the morning run so smoothly. Cote Brasserie and Waterstones very kindly donated prizes for our winning runners! The sense of community was unmistakable: people from every background coming together in good humour and shared celebration. It was a true reminder of what makes our city so special.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, marshalled, flipped, cheered, donated, and cleared away. Events like this don’t just happen — they’re built on teamwork, generosity, and community spirit.
If this year’s race proved anything, it’s that our Shrove Tuesday tradition just keeps getting better!
